GREAT MACHINE

TJDOWD 6/13/2019

I BOUGHT THIS AND LOVE IT. NO MESS LIKE MY OTHER GRINDER. MY OTHER GRINDER WHEN YOU PULLED OUT CONTAINER THE COFFEE WAS GROUND INTO, THERE WAS ALWAYS LOSE GRIND'S YOU END WITH ON COUNTER, NOT WITH THIS ONE. ALSO IT IS EASY TO CLEAN.

Best Grinder Yet

kane1802 6/6/2019

I have this Burr grinder for just over a month now and I am so impressed.I have had 3 different ones before getting this model. It grinds just a little bit louder than normal but the other features more than make up for it.Being able to calibrate the burrs to higher fine or lower coarse for a baseline is really helpful. After calibrating you then have 15 one click adjustments to find exactly the grind your are looking for.The class bowl helps with holding static way down . It was a little more expensive than most others but I believe I have true value for what I spent my money on.

Easy to use

Tom1717 5/9/2019

This is the third and hopefully the last coffee grinder I have bought in the last 14 months. This is my first kitchenaid and I have fallen in love. This thing is meaty and well built and it works like a charm.

Great grinder

Sam0418 5/1/2019

I purchased this a couple of months ago because I wanted to move away from plastic jars and to an all glass option. I love it! The grinder and jars have been so easy to clean when I switch from one type of coffee to another. The only issue is that occasionally, the beans will balance themselves in such a way that they don't flow down into the grinding mechanism. A quick stir fixes that easily!

Better than the conical grinderS I've tried

SGTampa 4/25/2019

So, if you research "they say" conical is the way to go for a grinder. But after FOUR of them over a short time span (they tend to be made of cheap stuff from what I've noticed) I decided to give this a try. While the Kitchen Aid is not a conical burr grinder, I cannot tell the difference in taste. It is sturdy, made of metal and glass. No cheap plastic. Taking the front screws off from cleaning is easy and accessible. Give this a try, I don't think you'll regret it.

I WAS happy with this...

Rockcoffee 3/21/2019

I bought this a month ago and was immediately happy with this grinder as I felt that it was worth the money and that it fit well with my level and quality of coffee consumption. I immediately noticed an improvement in the grind over my old burr grinder which resulted in a noticeable increase in my coffee's flavor. The grinder brought out subtleties in my coffee that I hadn't experienced. UNFORTUNATELY the ground coffee jar is barely thicker than a light bub's glass and it got tapped and broke within a week. I took the blame and when I tried to order two replacements I found out that they were well over $40 apiece! I only paid $200 for the grinder!! I refuse to be taken advantage of that way so now I am stuck using a jar that does not fit properly and makes a mess of ground coffee to clean up every morning, as it flies out onto my counter. DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE THAT I DID. When spending this kind of money shop and find a quality product and be sure the company backs their products fairly. I had recommended this to a friend who immediately bought one for their relative and was planning to buy one for themselves. I have since passed this review on to them.

Good - but inaccurate dimensions listed!

rmscoffee 2/27/2019

We just bought this and on it's first use it worked great. But it's 14" tall, not under 10" as listed. Take that into account when you're thinking about where it will fit in your kitchen.

kitchenAid burr coffee grinder

eviltwin9 2/12/2019

This is the second KitchenAid burr grinder we have bought in the last 15 years. Sadly, the first one just gave out. we looked at others on the marketplace some less expensive, some more expensive, but this was the best by far. we had the dark gray color before but decided to go with the red this time. Beautiful!

Used mine for over a decade

Virginia Coffee Drinker 1/8/2019

I got this when they first came out (over a decade ago), and it's been working fine. We use it three-four times a day, usually on the same setting. It's built like a tank. As people have mentioned, it is very loud, so if you need to grind when people are sleeping, this isn't going to work. The glass jar did fall off the counter and shatter, but I was able to find a replacement on Amazon. When this breaks, I will probably get another one because it's been so reliable. Would be nice if they could make it quieter.

I'm In Love!

ReconMan8654 1/4/2019

Being a self-professed, high-end coffee snob, my life's greatest regret is having not purchased this epic grinder sooner. It perfectly renders coarse to fine grinds, is of solid construction with great fit and finish, and is the striking visual centerpiece of my kitchen counterspace. The highlight of my day is French pressing high-octaine, quality coffees ground moments earlier from this wonderous device. Boom!

Love the grinder but hate the noise!

AKcoffeedrinker 7/29/2018

We bought this model after seeing how our friend's older version of this grinder work beautifully for grinding coffee. However, when we first used it for the first time, we were shocked at how much noise it makes. Almost need ear plugs while running it. With the burr grinder removed the motor still makes that racket so it's the motor making the whining noise, not the grinder . The other problem we've had with it is the burr grinders getting jammed and stopping. Twice in the past two months, we've had to disassemble the grinder and romove all the ground coffee from around the burrs.

Excellent grinder

Matt in OK 4/26/2018

This grinder is a vertical flat-plate burr grinder, which provides a far superior grind to a blade "grinder" (blade grinders crush/masticate more than cut while burr grinders use progressively narrowing blades to slowly reduce the size of coffee bean particles). There are more expensive conical burr grinders that do offer advantages, but the quality of the grind isn't necessarily a whole lot different. One thing another reviewer pointed out was issues with gravity-fed beans getting jammed up. This is a very minor problem that they chose to solve by doing the most complex, labor intensive, and unnecessary fix for. They essentially disassembled the machine and turned it upside down. OR you could poke at the beans a bit with a stick/spoon/other pointy object. Conical burr grinders tend to run much faster and feed directly into the grinding gears, so they may be less susceptible to this issue....but it's such a minor non-issue. Also, the same person complained about the glass grind jar not being replaceable. Can't seem to find the "Replacement Parts" link under "Service and Support" on this very page??? You could literally build your own grinder with all the spare parts available for this grinder....every single part is there and has been for over a decade. I've had my grinder for almost ten years now and couldn't be happier. Parts are available and minor quibbles are easily solved. A bit noisy, but it's a grinder so....

Great grinder, but...

FarmerJane 4/15/2018

We have had 2 problems with this grinder. While it does grind at a slower speed and much cooler than other grinders, beans become stuck in the entrance to the grinder. You have to stop grinding, remove the lower glass container, remove the beans from the hopper, remove the hopper and turn it upside down to get the beans dislodged. After having to do this several times grinding the same bag of beans, we found that we just have to stand there and put a couple tablespoons of beans in, let it grind, add a couple more tablespoons, etc. we get a good grind but it is terribly inconvenient. The other issue is the broken bottom glass container. I've been told we can't get a replacement. Using anything else makes a big mess. I've been fashioning something out of parchment paper. Once again, very inconvenient. I wonder if the people who design these things actually use them...

Durable quality. Excellent grinder for the money.

KennethS 2/6/2018

I've had mine for about 10 years (when it carried the KitchenAid Pro Line moniker) and love it with one exception: I wish it had 1/3 click stops between the grind numbers instead of only 1/2 clicks. It would be nice to be able to dial in (and hold at a click) a little more precise grind. Otherwise, it's a great product. Quite a bit less expensive than the "barrister" grinders from the Italian espresso manufacturers.

Great quality coffee grinder but messy

DrScott 1/2/2018

I've had this grinder for a few days, and my initial impression is that the burr grinder produces an excellent coarse grind for use with a Keurig reusable pod. It's also much quieter than the grinders in coffee stores. The only disadvantage is that it's very messy to use. Coffee grinds wind up all over the kitchen counter, even when I very carefully keep the collection container aligned with the grinder casing.

Poorly designed parts and no part replacements.

Mark Peterson 11/15/2017

My first grinder's shaft broke. A machine should never be designed to break any of its parts. I got a replacement under warranty, and 2 years later the spring loaded plate you see above the glass catch cup broke where there is a collar that holds the cup place. I called KitchenAid customer support and was told that this is not a repairable item and there are no parts available. This grinder costs almost as much as a mixer and is not repairable.

A bean grind'en beast

PaDave 11/4/2017

I bought this grinder 7 years ago last month and it worked as good this morning as it did 7 years ago! I grind on average 5 lbs. of beans every 3 months so over the course of that seven years that's about 140 pounds. I can't see any ware on the burrs and it still gives a consistent grind for my drip coffee maker. Easy to clean and maintain. Built like a tank too,

Fantastic grinder

9/29/2017

We have had this for4 or 5 years. It is well built and grinds very consistently. If the Beans are extremely oily you may have to tap the side of the bean bowl to keep the beans from sticking together and not dropping down to the grinding burrs, but that doesn't rise to the level of an irritant! We love this machine and have recommended it to many of our friends.

8/14/2017

The burr grinder is, first of all, lovely to look at and a delight to use; it is heavy duty, and, it would appear, durable. This is the second burr grinder of this sort from KA that we have owned. The other lasted well over 15 years. And is still working, though it needs new burrs.

Best Grinder Ever!

7/16/2017

I purchased this grinder three months ago. At first I was not happy about it. It did not work as well as I thought it should. Then it stopped working. I called KitchenAid and they sent me a brand new one to replace it. Now I am extremely happy. It works exactly as it should. It is very easy to clean and grinds the coffee exactly the way I like it. I have had many grinders before finding this one and they were all lacking in one way or another most being extremely hard to clean or overheating all the time. I love my KitchenAid grinder!

The burr grinder is heavy duty and amazing

CFM 7/4/2017

Loving it in red, this device is an amazing addition to my coffee-making stable of heavy duty countertop appliances. I do have a concern regarding the bowl into which the ground beans are caught. This not bowl is not only extremely fragile (imagine the shards of clear glass to clean up if it is broken), but it is also not locked in under the grinder, so it is very potentially "mobile".

A Classic!

6/21/2017

I have tried other grinders and this one is the best by far. We like to make both pour-through and french press coffee. It's easy to go back and forth to choose the exact grind for each. We have only had it for a month, so I can not attest to its longevity, but on inspection it is well made and solid.

Almost Perfect

6/8/2017

We do very high volume grinding and it is fast and perfect grind. It is not exceptionally quiet but for short time of use that isn't much of a problem. It does however bind up every so often and has to be taken apart to clean. For the price, I expected perfection, so I was a little disappointed the first time this happened in less than a month from ownership. It is really nice looking in the kitchen and goes well with my other Kitchenaid appliances.

Nice surprise

5/24/2017

I switched to a pour over style of coffee, and experimented with a fresh grind. The adjustment is easy, just turn the dial, and it consistently burr grinds perfectly. It is fairly air tight, you can fill the top bowl with beans, and I use a scale to weigh mine out of the bottom. If I grind too much today, the excess sits and waits for the next time. The grind looks like it's effervescent when the hot water is added. No regrets, it's doing a fantastic job these last few months. Hey, and it's a beautiful and functional piece that sits on the counter.

Adjustable Settings are Great

5/16/2017

I've had the grinder for 3 years and love the adjustable settings. I've found that different beans taste best at different settings. I can make coffee at home that is better than Starbucks, at least to my taste buds. The finer the grind, the more bitterness it brings out in the beans. Some beans are bitter already, so dial grind more coarse. Some cheaper or less fresh beans don't taste that good, so grind finer and add a little cream. The glass holder minimizes how the finer grinds tend to stick to the container because of static electricity.

I consider myself a very picky coffee drinker. It must be fresh never to sit on a burner or warmer. I grind it for my 'big' cup every morning. This grinder will not disappoint. It's less noisy than others I've owned and it's built to last.

Good have been better

5/14/2017

The reviews were pretty good though the later ones more mixed. I got a great discount on this machine and thought it was a good opportunity to upgrade my coffee grinder. The first one I adjusted and played with a few weeks before coming to the conclusion that it was clearly defective: Bean's continually got caught in grinding mechanism resulting in uneven results. I returned the machine to Williams Sonoma and ordered another one thinking it would be OK the second time around. It wasn't. This time it was almost impossible to separate the dialing component from the grinder making it impossible to reassemble. Gave up and returned it.

The quality I've come to expect from KitchenAid

4/13/2017

It works as expected, no issues. I weigh the coffee beans into the filter-lined basket, dump them into the hopper, then grind them directly into the basket. No mess. I re-insert the bottom jar just to give the grinder an attractive balanced look on the counter when not in use.

One of the best grinders for the cost

3/29/2017

I love this grinder. I've had it for a little over 2 months. It has consistent grinds on any dial (corse and fine). I have ground for french press, pour over, and espresso and it pulled great for all brew methods. The noise is loud, but that's going to be the same for most burr grinders.

Replaces my older Kitchenaid Burr Grinder

3/16/2017

My older model Kitchenaid Pro Burr Grinder was still working fine till the plastic drive gears on the motor transmission started breaking off. At that point the motor could not turn the grinders. I was disappointed since although it was nearly 5 yrs old, I only used it once a week at most during the period. No replacement parts were available anywhere so I couldn't repair it. After looking at the grinders available, I decided to just replace with the same type unit as many of the glass parts etc. are interchangeable and very costly to replace individually.

Workhorse Grinder

3/8/2017

We bought this unit to grind botanicals for our craft distillery. It makes short work of the juniper berries and pinon nuts we use in our gin and gets them to a size we can then transfer to our food processor to blend with the other botanicals for the gin.

Grinds coffee well but loud

3/1/2017

I bought this two months ago after my old burr coffee grinder stopped working. This one is considerably louder - to the point that my wife wondered whether it was supposed to be making such a loud noise as it grinds. Some of the pieces seemed loose too (it vibrates a lot), and the ground receptacle at the bottom isn't flush - so a lot of coffee grounds escape. So it's messier and louder... but it produces a good and consistent grind. Works well for coarser French press, medium drip/pour over and moka and fine for espresso. So I stick with the mess and noise. Plus I bought it already.
